Approximately one of every 100 babies is born with a congenital heart defect. This is the most common birth defect in the world. Each year approximately 40,000 babies are born in the United States with a congenital heart defect. More than 4,000 will not reach their first birthday. Thousands more die before they reach adulthood.
1in100 was founded on the principal that only a small percentage of Americans know how many babies and children are affected by congenital heart defects/disease. 1in100 serves as a banner – a campaign – for parents, patient advocates, physicians and and their circles of influence to generate awareness and action toward eradicating heart disease in children – while helping children and families dealing with CHD.
One of the most pressing issues facing heart families is knowing where to turn, and how to find the right cardiologists and surgeons for your child’s condition. Please visit facebook.com/1in100 for insights from other families – or email firstname.lastname@example.org for specific questions, statistics or referral information.
