What is CHD?

CHD is an acronym for Congenital Heart Defects.

Congenital Heart Defects are one or more structural anomalies present at birth. Heart defects are the most common type of birth defect and the number one cause of infant mortality due to defect worldwide.

1 in 100 children are born with a heart defect.

25% of those are critical and will require surgical intervention during the infant’s first year to survive.

Your child’s heart defect is NOT your fault.

Research has proven that 80% of the time, heart defects have no known cause and occur in parents with no risk factors. Most of the time, it’s just a random thing that happens for no good reason.

The most common types of heart defects are:

Bicuspid Aortic Valve (BAV)

Atrial Septal Defects (ASD)

Ventricular Septal Defects (VSD)
